The book “The Economics of Climate Change”, authored by three academics including our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oktay Kızılkaya, has been published by Ekin Publishing.
Prepared by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Mike from Osmaniye Korkut Ata University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oktay Kızılkaya from Malatya Turgut Özal University, and Dr. İbrahim Ethem Akyıldız from Bursa Uludağ University, the book offers a socio-economic perspective on climate change, covering both its macroeconomic and sectoral dimensions comprehensively.
The study examines the effects of key climate parameters, such as temperature increases and changes in precipitation patterns, on economic growth, employment, inflation, foreign trade, investment, and poverty. At the sectoral level, the book provides detailed analyses of 14 sub-sectors, including agriculture, livestock, energy, construction, education, health, and tourism.
The book consists of eight main chapters. The first three chapters introduce readers to the topic through basic concepts, indicators, and international policy frameworks. The following chapters analyse the macroeconomic impacts of climate change and its effects on the agriculture, industry, and service sectors. The final chapter, a significant innovation in Turkey, is dedicated to “Climate Change Econometrics.”
As one of the first academic resources on this topic in Turkey, the book is written in an accessible style for both academics and researchers interested in economics, as well as the broader audience curious about climate change. The authors believe that this work will fill an important gap in both economic analysis and social awareness.
